Join sculptor Thomas Bucich in his Southern Highlands Studio for an immersive weekend of art making inspired by the power movement and spirit of the horse.
Thomas will share his equine experience from his years of riding through to his art practice which include the horse as his focus in both two and three dimensions.
You’ll be guided by Thomas beginning with expressive sketching from a live horse - then translate the observations into three dimensional form through hands on sculpting in plaster with an optional pathway to working in wax to be cast in bronze.
This is a hands on studio experience, with a live horse on the property on Day One. We recommend some basic experience in art making to get the most of this special event.
Across two intensive days you’ll explore:
expressive drawing in pencil and charcoal gesture, line and form
introduction to preparing base structures for sculpting
sculpting in direct wet plaster
option to explore the lost-wax bronze technique to be cast in bronze following the weekend
DAY ONE
Capture the sculptural essence and energy of a live horse through sketching and photographing in the yards, then begin sculptural studies in the studio.
DAY TWO
Refine and complete your sculpture in plaster — with the option to create a work in wax for bronze casting.
